Energy prices rise for businesses and households in Poland and Czech Republic

Energy markets in Poland and the Czech Republic are facing significant volatility and rising costs. In Poland, electricity prices for businesses are among the highest in the EU due to a coal-heavy energy mix, raising concerns about long-term deindustrialization. Additionally, the implementation of the ETS2 system is expected to increase fuel and heating costs starting in 2028. Household heating costs are also rising, with pellet prices reaching record highs, making it one of the most expensive heating options compared to heat pumps or gas.

In the Czech Republic, major energy suppliers including E.ON and Pražská plynárenská have increased prices for new fixed-term electricity and gas contracts. These adjustments are a response to rising wholesale market prices driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Experts warn that favorable energy offers for new customers may soon disappear, advising consumers to consider longer-term price fixations to mitigate future volatility.
