Czech environmental projects revitalize river landscapes in Hradec Králové and Liberec

In Hradec Králové, the state enterprise Povodí Labe has launched a project to restore the Holštejn dead arm of the Orlice River. The initiative, valued at approximately eight million CZK, aims to reverse the decline of rare species in this European-significant natural monument. Work involves removing roughly 4,000 cubic meters of sediment and creating new ponds and aquatic biotopes to improve conditions for plants, insects, and amphibians. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2028.

In Liberec, a new riverside promenade along the Lusatian Neisse has been completed, transforming a former parking area into a modern park. The space features wide seating stairs leading to the water, greenery, a children's zone with water elements, and art installations, including sculptures by Magdalena Jetelová and glass installations by Preciosa. This revitalization follows similar efforts to return the Ještě river to the public by replacing concrete and parking lots with accessible recreational areas.
