Czech experts issue heat safety and gardening advice for summer
Health professionals advise pregnant women in the Czech Republic to stay well‑hydrated (2–3 litres of water daily), keep in the shade during the hottest part of the day, limit physical exertion and be alert for signs of pre‑eclampsia such as sudden swelling, high blood pressure, severe headache or visual changes.
Gardeners are encouraged to protect plants from July heat by moving potted flora to shaded or semi‑shaded spots, using water‑filled bathtubs or large containers to create humid micro‑climates, applying organic mulches such as bark or straw, and installing simple drip‑irrigation systems. Compost mixed with biochar and mulching under trees help retain soil moisture, reducing the need for frequent watering.
