Czech Farmers Harvest Over 80% of Grain and Rapeseed Fields

By early August 2026, Czech farmers had harvested 80.26 % of grain and 87.93 % of rapeseed areas, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The rapid progress follows sunny weather and is ahead of last year’s figures, when only about one‑third of grain and 52 % of rapeseed were harvested at the same time.

In South Bohemia, 77.81 % of grain and 81.61 % of rapeseed have been collected, but average yields fell about 20 % due to an extreme drought, similar to 2003 and 2015. Regional agrarian chamber director Hana Šťastná said, “The harvest is moving at record speed. If it does not rain, planting the next rapeseed crop will be problematic.” Agricultural cooperative chairman Bohumil Hradecký warned that lower grain yields could lead to a shortage of straw for livestock bedding and feed.

Overall, the average grain yield stands at 5.48 t/ha (about 5.18 million t) and rapeseed at 2.57 t/ha, both below the previous year’s levels.
