Czech farmers harvest over half of cereals and two‑thirds of rapeseed as weather hampers yields

In the Czech Republic, harvests are progressing faster than last year. By mid‑season, more than 50 % of cereal fields and about 65 % of rapeseed (oilseed) fields have been cut, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture. The pace is highest in South Moravia and the Zlín region, while the Karlovarský region lags.

In Central Bohemia, the agrarian chamber reported that roughly half of cereal crops have been harvested, but yields are down because of hail, heavy rain, spring frosts and a dry summer. The Czech Statistical Office estimates the 2024 cereal harvest at 6.47 million tonnes—15.9 % less than 2023—with an average yield of 5.58 t/ha. Rapeseed output is projected at 847 000 t, 17.1 % lower than the previous year, at an average 2.57 t/ha.

Both the reduced area sown and the adverse weather conditions are expected to lower overall agricultural production compared with recent years.
