Czech Government approves daylight saving time schedule through 2031

The Czech government has approved a regulation establishing the dates for daylight saving time transitions for the years 2027 through 2031. Following the schedule set by the European Commission, daylight saving time will continue to begin on the last Sunday of March and end on the last Sunday of October.

Minister for Prevention and Sport Boris Šťastný expressed opposition to the continued practice, citing potential negative impacts on human health. He advocated for the Czech Republic to negotiate at the EU level to abolish seasonal time changes in favor of permanent standard time.

While the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs noted that research into biological clocks suggests impacts, they stated that no definitive long-term negative health effects have been proven in the EU. The ministry also highlighted that daylight saving time allows for more outdoor activity during evening hours. Following discussions with the ministry, Šťastný changed his formal objection from 'fundamental' to 'recommendatory'.
