Czech Republic seasonal time change policy

The Czech government has approved a regulation to continue seasonal time changes through 2031, following the schedule set by the European Commission. Under this plan, daylight saving time will begin on the last Sunday of March and end on the last Sunday of October.

While the European Parliament moved to end the practice as early as 2019, EU member states have struggled to reach a consensus on whether to adopt Central European Time or maintain daylight savings to maximize evening light.

Within the Czech government, Minister for Prevention and Sport Boris Šťastný expressed opposition to the practice due to potential negative impacts on human health, though he later changed his formal objection from ‘fundamental’ to ‘recommendatory’. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs noted that while research into biological clocks suggests impacts, no definitive long-term negative health effects have been proven in the EU. Experts and parents have noted that these shifts can disrupt circadian rhythms and daily routines.
