Czech government approves full digitalisation of vehicle registration

The cabinet headed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš approved a amendment to the law on conditions for vehicle operation that will digitise the entire vehicle registration process in the Czech Republic. All procedures – registration, transfer, deregistration, issuing of new plates and documents – can be completed online via the Transport Portal managed by the Ministry of Transport, with plates and documents deliverable to pick‑up points or by courier. The reform also makes registration plates portable between vehicles and enables automatic data exchange between state systems, eliminating the need for owners to visit offices.

According to Minister of Industry Karel Havlíček, the changes will affect hundreds of thousands of drivers, with about 1.2 million vehicle transfers recorded last year and roughly 190 thousand cars processed for ecological disposal annually. The digitalisation aims to streamline services for motorists and reduce administrative burdens across the country.
