Czechia advances labor reforms for platform work and pay transparency
The Czech government is advancing legislative changes to transpose European directives regarding platform work and pay transparency. These reforms aim to clarify the distinction between entrepreneurship and dependent employment, particularly for digital platform workers such as couriers and taxi drivers. A key feature is a rebuttable presumption of an employment relationship, allowing companies to prove a worker is an independent contractor if they meet specific criteria.
Regarding pay transparency, new rules will allow employees to request information on average pay levels for comparable work, broken down by gender. This is intended to end the taboo of salary secrecy and ensure fair compensation.
Additionally, the government is introducing measures to combat illegal work. Under new proposals, employers caught employing people illegally may be required to pay backdated compensation at 1.5 times the average wage for each month of undeclared work. The reforms also include the next stage of the Unified Collection Point, which aims to centralize the collection of social and health insurance to improve efficiency and reduce administrative burdens for businesses.
