Czech Government Sets Fuel Price Caps Through New Regulation
Effective 13 May 2026, the Czech government assumed a new role as the price‑setting authority for gasoline and diesel, supplementing the Ministry of Finance under law No. 63/2026. The government issued its first price‑setting decree, establishing maximum prices for these fuels through the end of May 2026.
The Finance Ministry now publishes daily bulletins at 14:00 in the Price Gazette, announcing the computed maximum price for the next trading day (or weekend days). These values are derived from algorithms defined in the decree and are intended to be applied during extraordinary market situations or when such conditions demand intervention.
The regulation marks the first application of the government's expanded powers to control domestic fuel prices, aiming to stabilise the market amid potential disruptions.
