Czech government to enable online vehicle registration and plate delivery
The Czech cabinet will discuss a draft amendment that would allow owners to transfer vehicle registration entirely online via the Transport Portal and receive licence plates and registration certificates in parcel lockers. The proposal also introduces portable licence plates that can be kept when changing vehicles and automatic deregistration of stolen or unroadworthy cars. Implementation is staged: some measures could take effect in November, while most registration changes are slated for July 2027, with additional provisions from July 2028. Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik said the aim is to "enable pick‑up of registration plates and certificates at parcel lockers… and to save citizens time, administration and unnecessary office visits." The reform follows the sale of 1.223 million cars in the Czech Republic last year and seeks to automate tasks such as issuing third plates for bike carriers.
