Czech heatwave forces multiple festivals and events to be cancelled

A severe heatwave affecting the Czech Republic, with temperatures forecast to reach nearly 40 °C, prompted the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute to issue high‑temperature warnings. Organisers in several regions cancelled or postponed outdoor events to protect public safety. The traditional rock festival in Kroměříž was called off, and festivals and sporting activities in Litoměřice, Libochovice, Úštěk and Terezín were either moved to September or had their schedules shifted, with additional measures such as water stations, shaded areas and cooling mist installed where events remained.

The same extreme fire‑risk conditions led the ČD Nostalgie railway heritage group to cancel the planned weekend meeting of steam locomotives in Jindřichův Hradec. Organisers cited the elevated danger of wildfires and advised attendees to avoid alcohol and strenuous activity in direct sunlight. Across the affected regions, authorities and event hosts emphasized the need for precautionary measures amid the unprecedented heat.
