Czech institutions commemorate Václav Havel's legacy
Various institutions in the Czech Republic are holding events to commemorate the legacy of Václav Havel.
In Opava, Silesian University is set to unveil a Václav Havel bench near the Faculty of Public Policy on October 15. The project, which received approval from the VIZE 97 Foundation and Dagmar Havlová, was designed by architect Bořek Šípek. The university intends for the bench to serve as a symbol of values such as freedom, dialogue, and active citizenship, providing a space for public debate. The unveiling will include a screening of the documentary ‘Tady Havel, slyšíte mě?’ by Petr Jančárek.
In Pardubice, students from the Montessori Elementary School organized a program to honor Havel’s uncelebrated 90th birthday. The event featured student-led presentations, creative workshops, and theatrical performances focused on themes of freedom and human rights. The program aimed to engage both children and the public in reflecting on Havel’s historical impact and the importance of protecting democratic values.
