Czech Minister Juchelka proposes 500 CZK pension boost for seniors

Czech Labour and Social Affairs Minister Marek Juchelka has introduced a proposal to add a 500 CZK monthly supplement to state pensions for the oldest retirees. The increase would be applied automatically at ages 85, 90 and 95, with further steps at 100, spreading a total of three thousand crowns across the later years of life. No application, health assessment or income test would be required.

The measure is intended to help seniors cover rising costs of medication, assistive devices, home care and residential care, which Juchelka says rise sharply in advanced age. Critics argue the amount is symbolic and insufficient to cover even a few hours of home care, and call for targeted support through care allowances or direct funding of social services. The government estimates the first‑year cost of the scheme at over two billion CZK. The proposal is slated to take effect on 1 January 2027, pending approval by the Czech Parliament, and may be amended during the legislative process.
