Czech Ministry of Health broadens prescription rights under public insurance

The Czech Ministry of Health introduced a draft amendment to the Public Health Insurance Act that expands the group of physicians allowed to prescribe selected medicines reimbursable by public insurance. The change will let doctors with the specialist code “E” – currently limited to certain specialists – also include general practitioners, family doctors and pediatricians. By widening the prescribing pool, the ministry aims to improve timely access to chronic‑disease treatments, cut unnecessary administrative steps and reduce gaps in medication adherence. The State Institute for Control of Medicinal Products will designate a new prescribing limitation symbol “F” for drugs entering the market under the revised rules.

The amendment is presented as a measure to increase drug availability for patients with stable, long‑term conditions while maintaining clinical safety where specialist oversight remains necessary.
