Overview

In early July 2026 the Czech Ministry of Health announced a postponement of the planned electronic prescription (e‑request) system while signalling an intention to broaden the prescribing powers of general practitioners. By the end of July, the ministry released a draft amendment to the Public Health Insurance Act that would allow doctors carrying the specialist code “E” – now limited to certain specialists – to include general practitioners, family doctors and pediatricians in prescribing selected medicines reimbursed by public insurance. The amendment introduces a new prescribing limitation symbol “F” for drugs covered under the revised rules. Officials say the changes should speed up access to chronic‑disease treatments, reduce unnecessary administrative steps and preserve clinical safety where specialist oversight remains necessary.
