Czech Ministry of Health proposes pharmacy-based vaccinations

The Czech Ministry of Health has proposed a legislative amendment to allow trained pharmacists to administer certain vaccinations, such as those for influenza and COVID-19, in pharmacies. The goal is to increase vaccination rates by removing practical barriers and making prevention more accessible to the public.

The proposal has received broad support from twelve medical professional societies, including specialists in infectious diseases, vaccinology, cardiology, and oncology. Additionally, the National Association of Patient Organizations (NAPO), which represents over three million people with chronic illnesses, supports the initiative.

Under the proposed rules, pharmacists must undergo specific training and pharmacies must meet technical requirements to provide these services. The amendment would also allow all doctors, regardless of specialization, and dentists to participate in vaccination efforts. The Czech government is scheduled to discuss the proposal on September 14.
