Czech Republic pension and tax policy updates
The Czech government is planning to discuss lowering the retirement age ceiling to 65 by 2028, reversing previous reforms that aimed for 67. While politically popular, the National Budget Council warns of significant fiscal impacts due to demographic shifts.
Regarding supplementary income, the Financial Administration has issued warnings about the 'Agreement to Perform Work' (DPP). Exceeding specific earnings thresholds can trigger mandatory social and health insurance contributions on the entire amount earned, rather than just the excess.
For retirees with additional income, tax filing requirements apply if self-employment income exceeds 50,000 CZK annually or if rental income from inherited property surpasses that limit. Additionally, pensions are exempt from income tax only up to a threshold of 806,400 CZK.
In the social sphere, discussions continue regarding the use of supplementary pension savings (DPS) as a tool for early financial independence, allowing individuals to access funds before the official retirement age without reducing their future state pension.
