Czech motorways D5 and D4 undergo reconstruction and maintenance
Major maintenance and reconstruction works are underway on Czech motorways. On the D5 motorway, a reconstruction project covering the section from Nýřany to Líní is set to begin. The project, costing 668 million CZK excluding VAT, involves a complete reconstruction of the cement-concrete road surface, replacement of containment systems with new concrete barriers, and repairs to bridge structures and ramps. Due to the age of the D5 section between Plzeň and Rozvadov and high heavy-vehicle traffic, the left half of the motorway toward Plzeň will face full closures, with traffic diverted to the right side.
Simultaneously, maintenance activities have commenced on the D4 motorway. Crews are managing approximately 1.1 million square meters of greenery to ensure driver visibility and proper water drainage. The maintenance strategy includes preserving biodiversity by cultivating wild meadows using specialized seed mixes developed in consultation with Mendel University. These meadows are mowed only twice a year to support pollinators like bees and butterflies, while other areas receive standard upkeep to maintain safety and ecological corridors.
