To combat this, the ŘSD aims to expand from roughly 150 rest areas to 200 within five years, targeting a total of 6,852 spaces by 2031. However, expansion efforts face challenges including land availability and local opposition regarding noise and crime.

Recent developments include a 121.5 million CZK reconstruction of the I/60 road in the Olomouc region, awarded to STRABAG a. s., to repair damage from catastrophic floods in September 2024. This project covers a five-kilometer stretch between Lipová-lázně and Vápenná, involving new road surfaces and retaining walls.

Furthermore, the Czech government has approved an 87 billion CZK budget from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) to support a major expansion. This program aims to construct up to 154 kilometers of new roads, including 90.8 kilometers of highways and 50.3 kilometers of first-class roads. Key upcoming projects include sections of the D52, D6, D7, D48, D55, and D35 motorways, as well as capacity expansions for the Prague ring road and the D1 near Brno.
