Czech MP Filip Turek faces resignation after Prague ambulance crash
Member of Parliament Filip Turek, a representative of the Motoristé party and government envoy for the Green Deal, collided with a hospital ambulance on a busy intersection in central Prague on Monday. The ambulance, which was transporting blood components, turned over onto tram tracks; its driver suffered a head injury and was taken to a trauma centre, while Turek escaped without injury.
Video released by Seznam Zprávy shows Turek entering the junction from a temporary left‑turn lane and continuing straight, striking the rear of the ambulance. The footage also suggests he may have overtaken a queue of vehicles before the impact. Police are reviewing all camera recordings and witness statements, but have not yet issued a finding of fault.
President Petr Pavel said any personal responsibility will be decided after the police investigation. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said that if the video confirms the sequence of events, Turek should resign from his government post. Opposition parties from ODS, STAN, Pirates and others have called for him to give up his parliamentary mandate and his Green‑Deal envoy role. Coalition partners, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka, have defended Turek and said they will wait for the police conclusions before judging.
