Filip Turek investigated after traffic crash and hit with building‑permit fines

Czech MP Filip Turek, former ombudsman and leader of the Motorist party, is under investigation for a traffic collision that occurred on 13 July 2026 in central Prague. His Mercedes‑G struck a hospital ambulance transporting blood, causing the ambulance to overturn. Police say the road markings at the intersection were correct, and Turek’s claim that he was not using the turning lane is disputed by video evidence.

Separately, the Prague‑15 municipal building office fined Turek a total of CZK 200 000 for two structures erected on his garden in the Dubč district without permits. One fine was CZK 80 000 for a shed, the other CZK 120 000 for a two‑car garage, both later granted retroactive permits. The fines were characterised as negligence and intentional violation respectively. Turek has stated he would resign from his government envoy role for climate policy if the police deem him responsible for the crash and would not invoke parliamentary immunity.

These incidents have drawn political commentary, with figures such as regional governor Martin Kuba condemning Turek’s remarks and others noting possible legal consequences ranging from administrative penalties to criminal charges.
