Czech MP Filip Turek under criminal investigation after Prague traffic crash

On 13 July, Czech MP Filip Turek collided with a hospital ambulance at the intersection near I.P. Pavlova in central Prague. The crash caused the ambulance to overturn and its driver sustained injuries. Police have opened criminal proceedings for a suspected crime of bodily injury caused by negligence. Police spokesperson Eva Kropáčová said, “In connection with the traffic accident … police have started criminal proceedings for suspicion of the crime of bodily injury caused by negligence and have requested an expert examination.” No individual has been charged so far, and the investigation is non‑public.

Turek, who serves as the government’s climate‑policy envoy, announced he will suspend that role until the case is resolved. He maintains he acted lawfully, claiming he entered the intersection on a green light and that the road markings were confusing. He added, “I will not use parliamentary immunity if the police request my surrender.” Prime Minister Andrej Babiš previously said Turek should resign if the video evidence proves wrongdoing.
