Czech municipalities expand automated speed enforcement

Municipalities in the Czech Republic are taking steps to increase traffic enforcement through automated speed measurement systems.

Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav is preparing an expansion of its speed monitoring capabilities. The municipality has issued a public tender for the rental of up to 30 speed measurement systems. The four-year framework agreement has a maximum value of 273 million CZK excluding VAT. The contract covers the rental of complex systems, which may include multiple radars and cameras per location, as well as software, installation, maintenance, and technical support.

In Jedovnice, local authorities are considering section speed enforcement following a traffic analysis. A week-long study conducted in May 2025 on Jiráskova Street revealed that 45 percent of the 40,692 vehicles recorded exceeded the 50 km/h speed limit. Data projections suggest that approximately 81,065 vehicles would exceed the limit monthly under current traffic volumes.
