Czech Parliament approves rise in parental benefit to 400,000 CZK

The Czech lower house voted overwhelmingly to raise the standard parental benefit by 50,000 CZK, increasing the monthly amount to 400,000 CZK for children born after 1 January 2027. For twins and multiple births the payment will be doubled to 700,000 CZK. The amendment also introduces a “super‑allowance” that consolidates housing, living‑cost and child‑benefit subsidies.

The government’s fiscal estimate puts the first‑year cost at about 230 million CZK, rising to roughly 3.6 billion CZK annually by 2030 as the scheme fully phases in. All four opposition proposals to introduce automatic inflation‑linked indexation (valorisation) of the benefit were rejected, as were suggestions to link the payment to the minimum wage or to allow a longer paternal leave.

Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Aleš Juchelka (ANO) said the increase aims to mitigate inflation effects and improve families’ ability to balance work and childcare. The bill now proceeds to the Senate for further consideration.
