VZP and pharmaceutical firms raided by Czech police
The National Center for Combating Organized Crime (NCOZ) conducted a major police raid involving the General Health Insurance Company (VZP) and approximately ten pharmaceutical companies. The investigation is reportedly linked to past agreements made between the insurance company and various firms.
During the operation, detectives searched the VZP headquarters and several pharmaceutical offices, including Boehringer Ingelheim. Authorities detained three individuals, including Petr Honěk, a former deputy director of VZP and former head of its Ústí nad Labem branch. While the detainees were initially released, the investigation remains in a preparatory and non-public phase.
Law enforcement is examining suspicions of corruption and the unauthorized handling of medical data. VZP has stated that it is providing full cooperation and that its standard operations remain unaffected. The Association of Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry (AIFP) also confirmed that its member companies are cooperating with the NCOZ, noting that the investigation concerns a third party.
