Czech railway infrastructure projects undergo reconstruction and modernization

Major railway infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic are currently underway, involving both new reconstructions and modernization efforts.

In Tábor, the reconstruction of the station building officially began on September 17. The project, managed by Správa železnic and valued at approximately 164.4 million CZK, involves restoring two 19th-century historical buildings and constructing two new extensions to create modern, barrier-free facilities. The work is being carried out by OHLA ŽS and is partially funded by a loan from the European Investment Bank. Completion is expected by spring 2028.

Meanwhile, the modernization of the Česká Třebová railway hub has encountered geological complications. Unexpected soil conditions consisting of sand and clay have caused ground subsidence, leading to an estimated two-month delay. Správa železnic Director General Tomáš Tóth stated that the project, which costs approximately 20 billion CZK, will address this by reinforcing the ground and building a retaining wall. Despite the delay, the project is expected to remain on track for its 2031 completion date, and the issues are not expected to significantly impact overall costs.
