Czech railway infrastructure modernization

The Czech Republic is undertaking several major railway infrastructure projects focused on reconstruction and modernization.

In Tábor, a reconstruction project for the station building has officially commenced. Managed by Správa železnic and valued at approximately 164.4 million CZK, the work involves restoring two 19th-century historical buildings and adding two new extensions to create modern, barrier-free facilities. The project includes a new processing hall, an elevator for the first platform, and the repurposing of historical sections for administrative and residential use. Completion is expected by spring 2028.

Simultaneously, the modernization of the Česká Třebová railway hub, a project costing approximately 20 billion CZK, has faced geological complications. Unexpected sand and clay soil conditions have caused ground subsidence, resulting in an estimated two-month delay. Správa železnic Director General Tomáš Tóth stated that the issues will be addressed by reinforcing the ground and constructing a retaining wall. The project is still expected to meet its 2031 completion date without significant cost impacts.
