Czech railways launch ETCS system on Prague‑Milovice line

The Czech Railway Administration has placed the European Train Control System (ETCS) into operation on the 42‑kilometre railway section between Prague and Milovice. The project, carried out from 2023 and financed with roughly 304 million CZK from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility and the Czech State Transport Infrastructure Fund, was built by the contractor AŽD.

Two radio‑block centres, 667 balises and upgraded GSM‑R communications now monitor train movements in real time, allowing automatic speed enforcement and the possibility for trains to travel up to 160 km/h on selected sections. The new system is expected to improve safety, increase line capacity and shorten travel times between the two cities by several minutes.
