Czech Railways wins major transport tender for Prague and Central Bohemia
Czech Railways (České dráhy) has been selected for a major long-term transport contract covering Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. The tender, described as the largest for a carrier in the Czech Republic, was won with a bid of 165.17 billion CZK, notably lower than the 183.65 billion CZK bid from RegioJet.
If approved by regional and municipal authorities, the contract will allow Czech Railways to operate rail services in the area for 30 years starting in 2030. The agreement includes the mandatory purchase of at least 60 high-capacity electric train sets, specifically the EMU 400 model, which features at least 380 seats. These trains will serve backbone routes between the capital and the surrounding region, such as the modernized line to Kladno.
The funding for this massive project will be shared equally between the Central Bohemian Region and the City of Prague.
