Czech Republic ramps up road repairs across regions, including D5 highway and Prague tunnels

Regional authorities in the Czech Republic are carrying out extensive road repair and reconstruction projects throughout the summer of 2026. In the Plzeň‑Jih district, the regional road administration (SÚSPK) has scheduled 14 construction actions worth about CZK 100 million, including the reconstruction of the road near Stod hospital and the refurbishment of a historic bridge in Zde­myslice.

The national Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) is rebuilding a 10‑km stretch of the D5 highway between kilometres 110 and 100, with three work stages from August to November and a total cost of CZK 577 million. Traffic will be shifted to the right‑hand carriageway, then to both lanes with a reinforced shoulder, before normal flow resumes.

In Prague, the Lochkov and Cholupice tunnels on the city ring road will be closed from Saturday morning to Sunday noon for routine maintenance and safety checks, with traffic detoured via K Barrandovu and the South Connector.

The I/24 road between Třeboně and the Austrian border is being rebuilt by Eurovia in four phases from 10 August to 28 November, using temporary traffic lights and a single‑lane operation.

Other projects include a full closure of Lipnice street in Bystřice pod Hostýnem for resurfacing and drainage upgrades, demolition of the aging Jiruškův bridge in Týniště nad Orlicí with a two‑week river shutdown, and numerous repairs on local roads and bridges in the Svitavsky district. All works aim to improve safety, traffic flow and the long‑term condition of the Czech road network.
