Czech Republic tackles costly road bypass and airport repair amid funding challenges

A technical study for a new southwest bypass of Uherské Hradiště aims to reduce traffic in the town centre and improve connections to the Štěpnice housing estate and the local hospital. The project, now projected to cost several hundred million Czech crowns, is slated for a final environmental impact assessment by mid‑year, with construction planning and financing discussions ongoing between the municipality, the Zlín Region and the state.

In the same period, the Moravian–Silesian Region reported that it lacks sufficient funds to repair the Mošnov airport runway. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš suggested that the Czech Army could assume responsibility for the work, highlighting broader concerns over public‑sector financing for large infrastructure projects.

Both initiatives underscore the Czech government's need to secure co‑financing from regional and national sources to advance major transport upgrades.
