Czech Republic advances major bridge projects in České Budějovice and Moravia

Demolition crews have removed the historic Kosmonaut bridge in České Budějovice, leaving only debris. A new bridge will be assembled off‑site and then moved onto the Malše River bed, with completion planned for the end of November. The project includes redesign of surrounding roadways, pedestrian and cycling routes, and the replanting of trees removed for construction.

At the same time, a 690‑ton steel railway bridge is being slid into place over the Morava River on the modernised Přerov‑Kojetín line. The structure, over 100 metres long, is being positioned by a team of about ten workers and will become the dominant feature of the upgraded route, which aims to allow trains to travel at 200 km/h. The broader renovation, scheduled for completion by 2029, involves the removal of fourteen level crossings, new station buildings, and an estimated investment of 10 billion CZK.
