Czech Republic commemorates the founding of Czechoslovakia
Commemorations are being held to mark the 108th anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia on October 28. In Kopřivnice, a memorial gathering is scheduled for October 27 at the Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk monument.
The event will feature a speech by Lubomír Sazovský from the Masaryk Democratic Movement and musical performances by the Cantus Venuste choir, including the Czechoslovak anthem. Representatives from the city of Kopřivnice, the Czech Union of Freedom Fighters, and the Slovak Community in Kopřivnice will lay wreaths at the monument.
The Masaryk monument itself holds historical significance for the town, having been removed and replaced several times throughout the 20th century, including during the Second World War and the communist era, before finally returning to its place in 1990.
