Czech Republic concludes role as Guest of Honor at Frankfurt Book Fair

The Czech Republic has concluded its tenure as the Guest of Honor at the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair. The five-day program featured over 100 events and involved more than 200 Czech authors and publishing professionals. The presence of the Czech delegation resulted in a significant increase in German translations of Czech titles, reaching 193 between 2024 and 2026.

Key highlights included literary discussions at various venues, such as the European Central Bank and a Turkish-German culture festival, where author Kateřina Tučková presented her novel ‘The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch’. The event concluded with a ceremony where the Czech Republic passed the honorary guest mantle to Chile, the designated guest for 2027.
