Czech Republic drug report shows surge in synthetic cannabinoids and online sales

On the UN‑designated World Drug Day, Czech authorities released a detailed 2025 drug report. Cannabis remains the most widely used illegal substance, but use of synthetic cannabinoids such as HHC is rising rapidly. The report also documents growing markets for synthetic stimulants (katinones like mephedrone and clefedron), high‑potency synthetic opioids (nitazenes), and an increase in methamphetamine‑type production.

Pervitin (methamphetamine) stays the most common stimulant, while cocaine, once a luxury drug, is now a typical party drug after oversupply from South America reduces its price. Distribution is shifting from street dealers to encrypted online platforms and courier services, with products often disguised as sweets or vape liquids. The report notes tens of thousands of users, a steady number of drug‑related deaths, rising hepatitis C infections among injectors, and significant environmental waste from clandestine labs. Partial legalisation of personal‑use cannabis cultivation is slated for 2026, but the illicit market continues to adapt with smaller, high‑tech operations.
