Czech Republic expands electronic motorway toll system

The electronic toll system in the Czech Republic has expanded to include approximately 17.2 kilometers of newly completed motorway sections on the D3, D35, and D49 routes. As of September 1, 2026, vehicles with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes must pay tolls on these segments, which are located in South Bohemia, East Bohemia, and the Zlín Region.

The specific new toll sections include 3.16 km on the D3 between Nažidla and the state border at Dolní Dvořiště, 6.45 km on the D35 between Ostrov and Vysoké Mýto (excluding the Homole tunnel), and 7.60 km on the D49 between Holešov and Fryšták. Passenger cars and other vehicles exempt from the electronic toll system remain unaffected, continuing to use electronic highway vignettes.

Further adjustments are expected in the autumn. On October 1, the toll structure for the D6 motorway will be modified due to changes in the Ležky – Lubenec construction timeline. Additionally, on November 1, the toll network will expand by 3.70 kilometers on the D48 motorway between the Dub and Palačov interchanges.

In conjunction with the opening of the D35 motorway, the town of Vysoké Mýto is implementing measures to reduce transit traffic in its center. Local authorities are working to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow, including adjusting traffic light intervals to prioritize motorway traffic and connecting the bus station to the I/35 road.
