Czech Republic extradites CJNG members to the U.S

The Czech Republic has confirmed the extradition of two Mexican nationals to the United States following an arrest in June 2026. The individuals, identified as Edgar Alejandro López Velasco and José Miguel Alvarado Morales, were transferred to Florida to face charges related to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

U.S. authorities accuse the four suspects—including two others, Noé Díaz Jiménez and Leobardo Gaxiola López, who remain in Czech custody—of attempting to procure an arsenal of European weaponry in the Czech Republic. The intended weapons included machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars, and ammunition. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the group planned to use these weapons to carry out violent attacks against rival criminal organizations, civilians, and Mexican security forces.

The investigation alleges that the suspects attempted to pay for the weaponry using shipments of fentanyl and methamphetamine destined for the United States. The four men face charges of conspiracy to import drugs and firearms trafficking, which carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
