Czech Republic faces housing affordability challenges and low labour mobility

In Prague, housing costs have risen to the point where even the highest local salaries often cannot cover rent, contributing to a sense of isolation among residents.

Data from the OECD and Eurostat show that Czech workers are among the least geographically mobile in Europe, preferring to commute rather than relocate. Regional geographer Jaroslav Koutský attributes this to the country's small size, short travel distances, and strong family and social ties. European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit reiterated that labour mobility remains a core principle of the EU single market.
