Czech Republic faces record heat and strong thunderstorms

Across the Czech Republic, temperatures have surged to historic levels, with forecasts of 35 °C to 41 °C in areas such as Polabí and Poohří, likely breaking the national absolute temperature record. The extreme heat poses a significant load on the human body and prompts advisories to limit outdoor activity.

Meteorologists warn that the north‑western regions—including the Karlovarský, Ústecký and Plzeňský areas—will experience very strong thunderstorms. Expected wind gusts could reach up to 90 km/h, accompanied by hail over 2 cm and localized rainfall of up to 50 mm. The storm system is projected to merge and move eastward across the Czech Republic and into neighboring Germany, with further intense storms anticipated later in the week.
