Czech Republic faces returning heat wave and thunderstorms

The Czech Meteorological Institute warns that the coming weekend will bring mixed weather. Saturday will start clear to partly cloudy with daytime highs of 22‑26 °C, while clouds will increase and rain is expected later in the day. Sunday will see cloud‑covered skies across most of the country with showers and occasional thunderstorms, especially in the southwest, and temperatures ranging from 20‑24 °C.

Forecasts for July indicate above‑average temperatures and the possibility of a heat dome forming over Europe. Experts say daytime highs could exceed 30 °C, with occasional peaks over 35 °C, and night‑time temperatures may stay above 20 °C. While a severe heat wave with temperatures above 40 °C is not certain, the region may see several tropical‑type days. Similar heat expectations have been issued for France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece, where temperatures above 35‑40 °C are forecast for the southern areas.

The agencies stress that the return of high heat and occasional thunderstorms will affect daily life and health, and advise the public to stay informed through radar updates.
