Czech Republic faces tropical heat wave with temperatures up to 35 °C

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute forecasts a rapid rise in temperatures across the country, with highs reaching 32–35 °C by the end of the week and tropical night temperatures staying above 20 °C in larger cities. The heat wave will be reinforced by high humidity, creating a combined heat‑and‑moisture burden.

The State Health Institute warns that seniors, children, pregnant women and people with cardiovascular conditions are most at risk. It advises checking vulnerable individuals several times a day, limiting direct sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., wearing light clothing and head protection, and drinking at least two to three litres of water daily. The institute also notes that occasional thunderstorms may accompany the hot spell.

Meteorologists expect localized showers and thunderstorms, especially near the mountains, as a cold front approaches later in the weekend.
