Czech Republic heating demand stagnates amid energy price uncertainty
Demand for new residential heating sources in the Czech Republic has stagnated, with sales of units under 50 kW reaching a 15-year low last year. According to Zdeněk Lyčka, president of the Association of Heating Technology Enterprises, ongoing uncertainty regarding the price and availability of gas, electricity, and wood pellets is causing households to delay replacing aging equipment.
Over 100,000 heating devices currently in use do not meet modern emission standards. Despite a ban on certain low-class solid fuel boilers effective September 2024, many households continue to operate these older systems. While interest in new installations shows a slight uptick ahead of the heating season, no significant market turnaround is expected.
To combat rising energy costs, experts suggest that smart home technologies can help manage consumption. These systems allow users to monitor real-time energy usage via mobile platforms, helping to identify 'energy vampires' such as appliances in standby mode or inefficient, older machinery that consumes excessive power.
