Czech Republic heatwave drives temperatures to 40 °C in major cities

The heat is expected to combine with dry air, increasing the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory problems. Authorities urge residents, especially the elderly, children and those with health conditions, to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., use sunscreen with SPF 50 and keep vehicles unoccupied. A brief cooling period is forecast from 1 to 5 July, though temperatures will remain near 30 °C. Later in the week, models show a return of strong thunderstorms and heavy rain across the country, potentially providing relief. Health officials recommend preparing water supplies and using fans or cooling centers while the extreme heat persists.
