Czech Republic hits new heat records as temperatures reach 41.9 °C

A severe heatwave swept the Czech Republic in late June 2026, producing unprecedented temperature readings. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute confirmed an all‑time national high of 41.9 °C recorded at the Doksany station on 28 June, surpassing the previous record of 40.4 °C set in 2012. The day before, Doksany logged 40.9 °C, and the Tuhaň station measured 41.0 °C.

In the Olomoucký region, temperatures also surged: 38 °C in Přerov equaled a 1921 record, while Šternberk reached 39 °C. More than 80 % of the Czech monitoring network reported daily maxima above 35 °C on 28 June. The extreme heat increased the workload of emergency services, with numerous calls for heat‑related illnesses, traffic accidents and other incidents.

These temperatures broke long‑standing June heat records by up to 3 °C and marked one of the most widespread heat events in recent Czech history.
