Czech Republic implements pension calculation changes
The Czech Republic is implementing changes to its pension system that will impact future retirees. Starting in 2026, the state will gradually reduce the income credited toward the first reduction threshold, moving from 100 percent in 2025 to 99 percent in 2026 and 98 percent in 2027. Additionally, the rate applied for each year of insurance will decrease from 1.5 percent to 1.49 percent in 2027. These parametric adjustments aim to ensure the long-term sustainability of the pension system and will not affect current pensioners.
Simultaneously, research from PAQ Research suggests that increasing net wages for seniors could be a more effective motivator for staying in the workforce than government-proposed pension increases. According to the study, higher net earnings could encourage over 14,000 seniors to remain employed, potentially generating 14.5 billion CZK in annual tax revenue for the state. In contrast, the government's plan to increase the pension supplement for work is expected to motivate only about 900 additional seniors to extend their careers.
