Czech Republic introduces new financial aid for students and parents

The Czech Republic is introducing new social benefits aimed at supporting students in higher education. Starting in September 2027, students from low-income families will be eligible for a monthly allowance of approximately 5,600 CZK. This amount is calculated as one-quarter of the minimum wage and is intended for bachelor, master, and doctoral students up to the age of 26, provided the family income does not exceed twice the subsistence minimum.

Additionally, a new benefit known as the ‘babysitting allowance’ will be introduced on September 1, 2026. This measure is designed to assist student parents up to age 26 who are caring for a child for whom they receive parental allowance. This support aims to help cover childcare costs for those enrolled in full-time studies, including the first cycle of bachelor, master, or doctoral programs.

In Slovakia, the state provides a one-time payment of 110 EUR to families with first-grade schoolchildren. This benefit is distributed automatically by labor offices alongside monthly child allowances. Local municipalities, such as Staré Mesto and Nové Mesto in Bratislava, also offer additional local subsidies to assist with school supplies and costs.
