Czech Republic pension valorization and retirement employment rules

Discussions regarding pension adjustments and employment for retirees in the Czech Republic highlight several financial mechanisms. For those who delay receiving their old-age pension while continuing to work under a standard employment contract, the calculation base for their pension increases by 1.5% for every 90 calendar days of employment.

Retirees who continue to work also benefit from a reduced social security rate. Instead of the standard 7.1%, they are charged only 0.6% of their gross wage, which maintains their eligibility for sickness insurance. This arrangement allows for the accumulation of a financial buffer over a long-term horizon.

Regarding pension valorization, the government is expected to decide on the structure for January 2027 by the end of September. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has proposed increasing the basic pension component from 4,900 CZK to 5,200 CZK. Valorization aims to maintain pension levels relative to price changes, with the specific percentage increase being divided between the basic and percentage components of the pension.
