Czech Republic plans 570 million CZK rest area on D48 highway

The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) is planning a major investment to construct a new roadside rest area on the D48 highway near the village of Polom in the Olomouc Region. The project, estimated to cost approximately 570 million CZK based on 2022 pricing, aims to provide essential infrastructure for a highway that serves as a key transport artery connecting Moravia with Poland.

The facility is designed to accommodate approximately 175 to 177 vehicles, including 90 passenger cars, 65 heavy goods vehicles, 10 buses, and 10 caravans. To ensure accessibility from both directions of the highway, the site will be built on one side with a bridge connecting it to the opposite lane.

Key amenities planned for the site include a gas station, a restaurant, a relaxation zone with sheltered seating, a children's playground, and greenery. The area will also feature LED lighting, camera surveillance, and a system to monitor parking occupancy. If all necessary permits are obtained, construction is scheduled to begin in 2030, with the facility expected to be operational by 2032.
