Czech Republic proposes pension increases and social benefit adjustments

The Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, led by Aleš Juchelka, has proposed amendments to the pension system. The plan includes age-based increases for seniors reaching milestones such as 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100 years of age. Specifically, seniors would receive a 500 CZK increase during months of half-decade birthdays and a 1,000 CZK increase for decade birthdays, alongside a one-time 2,000 CZK bonus. Additionally, the ministry suggests increasing the merit portion of pensions by 1.5 percent for each year worked past retirement age.

Separately, new rules for the 'superdávka' (social support benefit) and the subsistence minimum took effect in October. The subsistence minimum for an individual increased by 640 CZK, rising from 4,860 CZK to 5,500 CZK. While these changes affect how social eligibility is assessed, the actual amount received by households depends on specific factors including income, assets, and household composition.
